Tracking UGC is the most difficult part, honestly. The content comes from creator accounts and travels through organic feeds, so some of the response looks like brand-organic traffic.
Give every creator a link for their bio. For a website, add UTM parameters so visits through that link can be identified. If you’re promoting an app, use the tracking link from your mobile measurement partner.
Add a unique code or creator-specific landing page when the offer allows it. A simple “How did you hear about us?” question in signup or checkout can recover some of the demand that later arrives through search or direct traffic.
Those links give you a useful signal, but they won’t capture the full effect of the videos. Someone can watch a creator, remember the product, and search for the brand later. They can type the website directly or install the app through another route. That visit or install won’t necessarily return to the original creator in your reporting.
Cross-posting makes the gap harder. The same video may appear on Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook. A viewer may encounter it more than once before taking action. The eventual visit can come through whichever route was easiest at that moment rather than the platform where they first saw the video.
Views still matter in the operating model because they tell you which scripts and hooks are travelling. They can also determine the creator’s variable payout when you use milestone bonuses. They don’t give you complete business attribution by themselves.
This affects how I think about the channel. Use the links and UTMs that are available, and accept that some response will land in broader organic traffic. Keep the measurement limitation in mind when you compare creator performance or judge whether a script is worth iterating.
The reporting will never be as neat as a paid campaign where every click starts with a tracked ad. That shouldn’t stop you from tracking what you can. It should stop you from pretending that the tracked number represents every person the creator influenced.
